Just another Manic Monday
After a lovely relaxing Sunday with friends, today was one of those days immortalized by the Bangles in their song, “Manic Monday”.
Got to be to work by nine
And if I had an aeroplane
I still couldn’t make it on time
‘Cause it takes me so long just to figure out what I’m gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there
I overslept, and was so groggy that I almost brushed my teeth using Lulu’s toothbrush and toothpaste, which not only look nothing like mine, I keep them in a separate section of the medicine cabinet. And her toothpaste is brown… and poultry flavored.
Fearing I was going to be late for the first week of the new semester, I took a fast shower, jumped into some clothes, shoved my feet into my boots without zipping them, said a quick good-bye to Lulu and pointed my car towards the city.
Luckily traffic was light on the highway, but not in our office. There we had a constant twenty student pile up, and just as we would clear the wreckage of one student who had left something till the last minute that suddenly needed the staffs’ attention, the next would arrive. I had all hands on deck with my three student workers and we still never stopped. Lunch was eaten somewhere between 3 pm and 5 pm between students, and if you asked me what I had, I swear I don’t think I could tell you. I ran out the door and down to my car, not realizing until I was halfway home that I had locked both my office keys and my cell phone in my office.
And my boots were still unzipped…
Take it away, ladies:
It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my fun day
It’s just a manic Monday
